SCREEN REPAIRS / MULTI-WINDOW PLANNER

Multi-Screen Mesh & Spline Planner

Plan replacement mesh and spline for up to ten rectangular screens. Enter each frame once, compare individual cut sizes, and estimate material needs and check usable roll width and length with a simple conservative cutting plan.

Add your screen frames

Measure the outside dimensions of each removable rectangular screen frame, not the window glass. Values use inches. Add up to ten rows.

Example values shown; recalculate after editing any input.

Your project summary

Mesh cut area total5.78 sq ft
Spline to purchase (with allowance)9.9 ft
Conservative mesh roll length, one cut at a time—
ScreenMesh cut (in)Frame perimeter (ft)Roll-width check

Enter roll width to see a conservative one-cut-per-row roll-length estimate. This does not optimize nesting or replace manufacturer-specific fabric orientation rules.

Estimate each separate screen before combining material needs; planned allowances are not fit specifications.

How to plan multiple windows without buying the wrong roll

  1. Identify whether you are replacing mesh only. For a replacement framed screen, use the window or manufacturer mounting dimensions instead.
  2. Measure each old rectangular frame's outside width and height. Enter each screen separately; similarly sized windows can still differ.
  3. Choose your cut allowance, enter the roll width if known, then inspect the fit result for every cut. A total area number cannot tell you that each rectangle fits.
  4. Check whether the weave/fabric has an orientation. Only enable rotation if the manufacturer permits it. Enter a possible roll length and inspect the comparison; a roll's square footage alone is not enough.
  5. Measure spline diameter and frame groove independently. This planner calculates cord length only, not diameter. A roll check is not a manufacturer fit guarantee or an optimized cutting layout.

Worked example: two different screens

A 30 × 24-inch frame and a 36 × 48-inch frame, with 1 inch of extra mesh on each side, need individual cuts of 32 × 26 and 38 × 50 inches. The combined rectangular cut area is (832 + 1900) ÷ 144 = 18.97 square feet. Frame perimeters total 108 + 168 = 276 inches, or 23 feet. With 10% extra, the shopping-length estimate is 25.3 feet of spline.

With the default orientation, a 36-inch-wide roll cannot hold the 38-inch cut width. The 38 × 50-inch piece cannot fit by rotating it either, since both sides exceed 36 inches. Check each cut rather than trusting the combined area; other cuts may physically rotate, but mesh weave or manufacturer guidance may restrict rotation. With a 40-inch roll and rotation disabled, those two cuts need at least 26 + 50 = 76 inches of continuous roll length before waste allowance. With 2 inches of cutting margin per cut, the conservative one-at-a-time estimate is 80 inches (6.67 ft), even though a more efficient cutting layout might use less.

Sources and limits

The arithmetic is MendNook's original calculator implementation. Its repair cautions follow Phifer's spline and screen selection chart. No material has been field tested by MendNook. This tool cannot check proprietary retention channels, non-rectangular frames, or supplier roll inventory. For one screen, use the single-screen mesh tool; for a frame that may be skewed, start with the frame measurement guide.
